Angel’s Attic Sale Raises $43,000 to Support Local Cancer Patients and Their Families

MINNEAPOLIS (July 16, 2010)— Twin Cities families showed their generous support for local individuals facing cancer by turning out by the hundreds at the first annual Angel’s Attic Sale held June 26 – June 29 in St. Louis Park.

With more than 100 volunteers organizing the sale, all proceeds went directly to Angel Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing emergency financial assistance and free education and support programs to adult cancer patients and their families in the Twin City area. With the help of a little more than 2,400 sale-goers, proceeds totaled more than $43,000, far exceeding Angel Foundation’s goal.

“In starting a new event without a 'following' and minimal publicity, we were happy to have the number of shoppers we did,” says Kay Melemed, co-chair of the event.  “From the many comments we received both during the sale and after, people will be looking for us in the future.”

Spearheading this event were Melemed and Judy Kaufmann who organized the World’s Largest Garage Sale for over 30 years. With a desire to continue using their expertise for a good cause, Melemed and Kauffman created Angel’s Attic to benefit Angel Foundation.

“We are so thankful to the talented and dedicated group of volunteers who organized Angel’s Attic and for the hundreds of shoppers who supported this sale, “ said Marsha Lietz, executive director of Angel Foundation. “ The funds raised will insure help to local adult cancer patients and their families when cancer strikes.”

The sale filled a 35,000 square foot building and featured a wide array of unique items: new and next-to-new clothing, antiques from many fine estates, art, housewares, furniture, electronics, books, Christmas décor and more.

“We couldn’t be happier with the results of the inaugural Angel’s Attic sale,” Lietz said.

Angel Foundation provides emergency financial assistance to adult cancer patients in the seven-county metro area of the Twin Cities to meet critical non-medical needs such as mortgage or rent payments, food, utilities and transportation costs. This support helps reduce the stress of lifestyle changes in order to retain dignity and quality of life. Angel Foundation also offers free education and support through its Facing Cancer Together programs to families who have a parent with cancer.
