A Young Family Faces Cancer

 Brian and Family

Brian is a 26 year-old husband and father who was diagnosed with testicular cancer when his wife Naomi was pregnant with their second child. Brian was working full time in IT at a large corporation while Naomi stayed home with their son who was about two at the time. The couple did everything they could to make extra money but with the demands of Brian’s treatment he was soon unable to work. The drastic reduction in income coupled with the mounting medical bills posed a financial hardship for this young family. They turned to Angel Foundation for help in meeting their basic needs.

It was a hard road for many months but in between chemotherapy and surgery, their baby girl, Lark, was born. Now their little boy, Jafhet, named after his great-great grandfather who immigrated to America from Finland, had a beautiful sister.

Brian is grateful for many things. He is grateful for his employer that has been very supportive throughout treatment and extended absences. He knows not everyone is as lucky. He’s also grateful for the “all clear” he received in late 2011. And of course, he’s grateful for his wife and beautiful children. According to Brian, “It’s been the best and hardest year of my life.”
