"Dear Angel Foundation, I would like to thank you very much for your financial support during my journey with breast cancer. I'm a single mother of 3, lost my job in January, and was diagnosed with breast cancer in March. Finances have been tight and your help was appreciated. It's very humbling to "take" when I'm used to giving, but I've had to swallow my pride and reach out to others. I wish you all blessings upon blessings. Thank you from the bottom of my heart." -M.W. October 2008

Thank you for your support!" - Sincerely J.R. - October 2008

"Dear Angel Foundation, Thank you so very much for the generous gift. You truly saved things for us, our situation was desperate. You can be sure that if circumstances change for me in the future, I will help out even in a small way." Sincerely and thankfully, P.S & M.H. - October 2008

In August of 2007 Natalie Burnell was busy creating a new life for her and her four children. Recently divorced, she had finished her prerequisites for nursing school and was set to begin classes in the fall. But on the day she was to begin classes, she found out she had invasive breast cancer.

As is typical for Natalie, she took the news in stride and with the approval of her oncologist prepared to tackle nursing school while fighting cancer with chemo and radiation. But officials at her school were concerned about the liability of having a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy participate in clinicals, and made it very difficult for her to remain in the school. Ten weeks into the program she withdrew.

After undergoing bilateral mastectomy, removal of her lymph nodes, chemotherapy, radiation, and reconstructive surgery, Natalie found it more and more difficult to focus on her recovery while bills continued to pile up. That's when her oncologist at Minnesota Oncology told her about Angel Foundation. Natalie applied for, and received, assistance with her mortgage payment.

"I was so stressed out, and knowing my house payment would be taken care of was so calming to my anxiety," said Natalie. "I've since learned to take a deep breath and concentrate on one month at a time."

Natalie received her last dose of chemotherapy on April 17, 2008 and is now free of cancer. She's decided to adjust her focus to the field of gerontology and is enrolled in a Master's program at Mankato State University. Her advice to other patients who are facing cancer right now: "As hard as it is to accept help, I encourage you to do so – especially when you have children. It's about their quality of life."

Thank you so much for all of your assistance. I really enjoy the Facing Cancer Together program.
